Cold Spring Granite featured in Modern Contractor Solutions
Known as a leader in the natural stone industry, Cold Spring Granite was featured in the December issue of Modern Contractor Solutions, the equipment and business solution magazine for concrete and general trades.
The article, authored by Cold Spring Granite Senior V.P. of Commercial Sales, Dan Rea, features the use of granite in one of Tennessee’s newest Veterans Memorials: The East TN Veterans Memorial located in Knoxville, TN. Cold Spring Granite partnered with Brewer Ingram Fuller Architects, general contractor Johnson & Galyon, and stone installer Intrepid Enterprises to create the tribute to veterans.
Cold Spring Granite’s Sierra White was chosen for the 26 granite steles. In all, 6,126 veterans’ names were inscribed on these 9-foot-tall feature pieces. The architect designed the stele features using two different stone finishes. A rub and sand finish, with a semi-smooth appearance, was selected and used on the upper portion to accentuate the true white tones of the granite. The lower portion where the names are engraved has a smooth, polished finish, allowing visitors to create rubbings of their loved ones’ names.
Benches, also fabricated out of Sierra White granite in a rub and sand finish, are located opposite each stele and beyond the Sierra White granite radial wall that encircles the memorial. Knoxville-based landscape architect Ross/Fowler designed a pavement pattern that features Cold Spring Black, Academy Black, and Radiant Red granite in a flamed and water-jetted finish. In all, 138 tons of granite was utilized for the project.
